    Ali has seen Kombucha bottles at grocery stores before, labeled \u201cfermented tea,\u201d but he\u2019s never tried it. Now, the word fermented immediately catches his attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    He pauses, remembering that fermentation often involves alcohol. Curious and slightly uneasy, he decides to look it up before taking a sip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Kombucha is made by fermenting tea and sugar with a culture of bacteria and yeast. This process naturally produces trace amounts of alcohol, leading many Muslims to ask: Is it halal or haram to drink?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Islam isn\u2019t about restriction\u2013 it\u2019s about discernment. <\/em>Living in an age of new food trends means Muslims must stay informed, not just about ingredients, but about how things are prepared. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • The alcohol is in very small, dissolved amounts, what scholars call mustahlak <\/em><\/strong>[something close to 3%]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          It is haram if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          • The drink can intoxicate the consumer.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • It is made in a way that resembles or functions like beer (fuq\u2018a<\/em>), then it becomes najis.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            *Because Kombucha varies by brand and method, it\u2019s best to check the alcohol content or avoid doubtful cases altogether. Scholars advise believers to be cautious unless you\u2019re sure of the alcohol level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            In short: Kombucha is halal only if its alcohol level is a dissolved portion [<\/strong>mustahlak<\/em><\/strong>] and it is not prepared like beer. Otherwise, it should be avoided<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
